Diving into a Bizarre Steam Game Trial: Controlling a Poop in a Mission to Find the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and players have found numerous interesting independent titles. However, one catches the eye for its offbeat concept. Called Unko Technica, this retro-inspired platformer features a hero that is literally a dung striving to travel to a restroom. As a fun fact, "Unko" means "poop."
Player controls is straightforward: you only need a one button to leap. In one hundred fifty levels, encounter mini-bosses and visit a market to acquire customizations for your fecal avatar.
Plan your movements with caution, since one wrong move forces beginning again. Bounce on bubbles to propel your character upward, navigate crumbling ledges, and activate triggers to unlock new areas. Collect currency for buying tougher levels as gameplay intensifies.
Graphically, the game features vibrant stages and catchy background music. The retro visual style featuring morphing abstract forms could recall gamers of classic titles like Earthbound.
Even though tough to name previous releases where you control a piece of feces, video games frequently incorporated fecal matter. For example, in Death Stranding, you can make grenades from character waste. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use feces as fertilizer. Unsurprisingly, such content appears extensively in Obsidian's adventure The Stick of Truth.
Putting aside its silly premise, Unko Technica has already received impressive accolades, such as being named best at Bandai Namco's GYAAR Studio in 2023. The demo is accessible currently on Steam, with the full game planned to debut on computers this November.
