A teenage boy was discovered deceased just days after being wrongly accused of taking the cremated remains of a dead infant during a break-in, a coroner's inquiry has learned.

Heartbreaking Discovery

The young boy's mother and father found his body in his bedroom at his Connah's Quay home on November 19th, 2021.

Untrue Accusations Begin

The inquest learned how his mother received a message on 8 November 2021 via online platforms, from a woman inquiring if Kai was her child. The communication stated: "Inform him thanks for burgling my flat."

In a testimony presented to the proceedings, Lisa Lloyd said the individual had been in the media, asserting her baby's remains had been taken in a burglary - a allegation which was false.

Police Investigation

An official inquiry from police later determined the supposed break-in victim had "lied to police" and "evidence shows that the property was not taken in the first place".

News coverage about the supposed taken remains generated online comments, and although Kai was not named in the messages, his mother said individuals "knew it was him".

The "online posts were really upsetting", she stated.

Emotional Health Effect

She added that her son had been identified with mild ADHD, and as part of that condition, other individuals' views really were important to him.

"It would have affected him severely," she commented, "particularly when this was not true".

Kai was detained at home, but no evidence was found. He was transported to a law enforcement facility and later released under investigation.

Authorities said they would be in touch, the inquest learned, but had not contacted the relatives by the moment of his passing.

Withdrawal and Anxiety

His parent said her son "withdrew into himself" after the detention and "would keep asking me whether I had received anything from the police", because his ADHD meant sometimes "a minute could seem like days".

When she spoke to him about the alleged incident, she said her son informed her he had entered the residence because the woman who lived there had said he could use the bathroom anytime he needed, but denied taking anything.

Online Bullying

In a joint statement between her and her husband, Mrs Lloyd said her son was being bullied online after the accusations.

The inquest heard that a young adult encouraged the teenager to end his life.

She had no worries on the night before he died, explaining how she had heard him "chuckling and teasing".

She portrayed him as a "compassionate, affectionate" young man, and said her "family is totally shattered".

He had been "obviously concealing his worries", she said, adding that he could not bear to have anyone "think bad of him".

School Response

The hearing heard from school staff at the local High School.

On 8 November, she "overheard some students discussing that the student had been arrested and that was the initial I heard".

"He told me... he'd was innocent," she added.

After the discussion, the staff member said she rang the family's family telephone and left a voicemail saying she had communicated to the student about the allegations.

The court learned his parents said they never receive that message.

Formal Finding

Lead investigator told the inquest he would wait for documents regarding what improvements had been made to dealing with suspects with ADHD, before deciding whether he should make a avoidance of future deaths report.

Delivering a descriptive conclusion, he stated: "Around November 8th, 2021, unsubstantiated accusations were made against the teenager, a 14-year-old child.

"Probably untruths were afterwards exaggerated and amplified through the platform of online networks.

"On November 11th, he was questioned by the police and following his interview he was released while inquiries continued."

The coroner concluded: "There is no evidence that the acts or failures of any organization caused or contributed to his death and although it was the outcome of a self-inflicted action it is not possible to determine his purpose."
